With release 1.729 of Ascent, we now have the ability to change the quantity for a PWO or a PO that is being created by Master Planner.
It requires the activation of a custom setting:
This must be checked in order for the functionality to be used.
Let’s set up a simple scenario. Item atop is a BOM-non Phantom. It is made up of bbb-bom, also a BOM-non Phantom, and item ccc, a purchased part.
For our example, let’s assume that none of the items above have any inventory whatsoever on hand nor any demand or replenishments.
Let’s also enter a sales order, demand, for a quantity of 1, with a ship date of 8/30/2016.
Atop has an estimated production time of 5 days, bbb-bom has 3 days, b22 has a purchasing lead time of 1 day and ccc has a purchasing lead time of 5 days.
Running master planner yields the following screen:
Notice that atop appears on line 104 and Ascent is suggesting a PWO for quantity equals 1. Let’s take that suggestion and select Create PWO.
Notice now that Ascent is allowing you to change the Quantity. Also, it is not displaying or suggesting all of the lower level components yet. That will come later.
For this example, I am going to change the quantity to 2, and then select the button Approve Qty for PWO/PO.
When I do that, here is what I get next:
Ascent now gives me the PWO that it created. Without this feature, Ascent would have created a PWO for quantity = 1. We also see that the Items required for PWO completion’s quantities have been changed to be consistent with the quantity from the PWO.
Master Planner now gives me the option to unselect certain items, just as before, however, it now also gives me the ability to change the quantity on any of the lines listed. Understand that if we change any quantities at this point, master planner will NOT explode through and change any of the lower level component quantities being displayed. It is up to you as the user to make changes, if required, at this point.
For our example, let’s change the quantities on the lines that are item type – item., and select Create PO/PWO for selected Items/Back to M.P.
Ascent will bring you back to master planner. If we look at the recent items view, we will see three (3) new entries, one for the PWO for bbb-bom (PWO-00484), 1 PO for item b24 (PO-00997) and 1 for item ccc (PO-00998).
Here’s the PWO that was created for the top-level item:
Here’s the next level PWO that was created for bbb-bom:
And finally, the purchase orders:
One more example: item dd has a demand placed on it on a sales order with a ship date of 8/30/2016. It has a purchasing lead time of 1 day. Let’s run master planner.
On line 180, master planner calls for a PO for a quantity of 1. Let’s select the Create PO button.
Master planner has suggested one (1) PO, but there are two (1) items on it; one for the item dd in question, and another, which happens to have the same default vendor (DB Schenker). Let’s change the quantity of the component MP Comp-1 to 300 and hit Approve Qty for PWO/PO.
Ascent has now created that purchase order for us PO-01000. Here it is:
