What does it do?
Ascent's Sales/Purchase Planner screen gives users the ability to create purchase orders or production work orders directly from open sales order requirements.
Process Types:
There are two types of orders that can be created from the Sales/Purchase Planner:
- Purchase Order – these are created if the sales order line in question is for an item with an “Item Type” = “Item”
- Production Work Order – these are created if the sales order line in question is for an item with an “Item Type” = “BOM” and “BOM Type” = “BOM non-phantom
Data Fields used for Sales/Purchase Planner on Item Master:
Field Name | Field Description |
Item Type | When adding an item that is the final product of a BOM, this value must be set to BOM. |
BOM Type | Ascent supports two types of BOMs: non-phantom and phantom. A non-phantom BOM represents a final finished good that can be stocked and sold. Production work orders can be created for it, and items that are on the BOM for that item will be used and consumed in its production. On the other hand, a phantom BOM can be used for planning purposes and cannot be stocked. While a non-phantom BOM results in a single item that can be sold, a phantom BOM is typically used to represent a group of required components common to several similar non-phantom BOMs. Often times this is called a “kit”. Because a phantom BOM consists of specific components shared amongst non-phantom BOMs, they are often used to simplify the management of these non-phantom BOMs as well as allow for sales to order a “kit” and have the warehouse storeroom people pick the components of the kit for the purpose of shipping them out on a sales order. The item that is designated as a “BOM-phantom” will NOT be picked, since it only exists to support the kitted items below it in the BOM for picking purposes. |
Default Vendor | This would be the default vendor field from the Item Master file for the item referenced on the sales order line. |
Data Fields used for Sales/Purchase Planner on Sales Order Header and Sales Order Line:
